Tailgunner Nymph

Hook: Short shank or shrimp hook, TMC 2487 or Kamasan Grub, two to four sizes smaller than you’d normally use for the same imitation.
Thread: 8/0, UTC 70, thread colour to match the insect colour. Thin thread makes a much neater fly.
Abdomen/tail: Fine natural fur dubbing (Wapsi natural fur blend).
Underbody and split tails: Dark “invisible” sewing thread (available from most haberdashers and Hypermarkets).
Wing case: Pheasant tail fibres.
Hackle: Small hen or soft cock hackle wound in open turns through the thorax and trimmed at the top.
